about
“Lock & Key” is the first single from the experimental songwriter’s forthcoming album Moth / Flame
Following up on the critically acclaimed and highly personal album Loosening Orions Belt, experimental songwriter Aron Dahl returns with another stunning collection of songs in 2024. The album Moth / Flame sees Aron Dahl dive even deeper into themes of sexuality, suffering and healing, while defying conventional genre categories.
Aron Dahl says about the single: I wanted to make a catchy song about heavy BDSM. The chord structure and sound is a homage to James Carr At the Dark End of the Street from 1966. But the lyrics of that song is all about hiding your desires in the shadows, while the lyrics on Lock and Key are pretty shameless. Lock and Key is also about duality, the verses change between being written in the perspective of a Dominant and a submissive. The characters are represented by the King of Cups - the cups symbolizing the water element and the Page of Wands - wands symbolizing the fire element in the Tarot. Last by not least the lyrics are inspired by my favorite Madonna song, Open Your Heart.
lyrics
Lock and Key
The King of Cups is feeding me
Oyster mushrooms, piss and he
Has made me strip and collared me
An object of desire
A baptism by fire
The Page of Wands is serving me
Oysters, mushrooms, wine and he
Is crawling on the floor for me
Licking my feet
Here we meet
In the cold and heat Between ground and ceiling Suffering and healing
You and me
Lock
and key
The King of Cups is telling me
To stand upright while he tortures me
Whips me until I loose my temper
Beats me into a whimper
The page of wands is making me
Happy when he
Takes 230 strokes for me
And object of desire
A baptism by fire
Here we meet
In the cold and heat
Between ground and ceiling
Suffering and healing
Here we meet
In the cold and heat
Between ground and ceiling
Suffering and healing
You and me
Lock
and key
